As Design Lead, I led the visual design strategy

Energy Vault initially had a one-page website that lacked a clear user flow and structured information architecture. The client's challenge was that it didn't effectively tell their story or prompt users to take meaningful action.

Discovering the need

Through our discovery phase, it became evident that Energy Vault needed to boost brand awareness and create a much more intuitive user experience offering a clear definition of their technology and products. The site also needed to build more trust with potential investors.

Greater brand awareness

I incorporated pillar elements from their logo to frame all media and visuals, together with vertical lines in front of headers to draw your eye to statements. Certain company offerings and their vision and mission sections were represented by specific colours from their logo to create a more cohesive and strategic theme concept that successfully aligned with their business goals and increased their visibility as a sustainable brand.

The new site was built in HubSpot, showcasing the client's products and incorporating features to track data and build investment opportunities. It offered a clear vision of their brand in a more impactful way. The user journeys were improved by having clear differentiation between their technology stacks and products, making their news updates a priority to effectively grow trust in investor relationships.

Design Thinking

We adopted a user-centered design approach to ensure the website catered to the needs of all users.

I began by conducting thorough stakeholder meetings to truly understand their challenges, business objectives, and vision for the brand. This involved a deep dive into competitive analysis and gathering data from the client's current site (as of August 2021) to get a comprehensive view of their landscape.

Uncovering opportunities

From our findings, we had a clear idea of how the business offerings needed to be showcased to resonate effectively with users. We defined key user personas—such as investors, stakeholders, and first-time visitors—and identified their specific needs and expectations.

Brainstorming sessions

I led workshops to brainstorm visual concepts, using mood boards featuring relevant visuals, competitor sites, and key content from Energy Vault's unique value proposition. As the visual direction started to take shape, I started applying this concept to global elements and specific modules in Figma, testing how these ideas would translate into a homepage design. I presented the final presentation to stakeholders and held feedback sessions for iterations and refinement.

Visual Design

Once the design concept was finalised and approved, I implemented the theme setup in Figma, creating visual designs for the key pages of the site. This stage allowed us to bring the vision to life and ensure that every element was aligned with our goals for the project.

Test

With development underway, we went through rounds of quality assurance and testing to ensure everything was thoroughly checked, launching the site in February 2024.

Clean tech, clean design

A soft and minimal approach with large white open spaces is a big fixture in the design, highlighting their media and 3D renderings. The intuitive user interface together with the content hierarchy successfully communicates Energy Vault's brand identity, their innovative technology stack, and commitment to sustainable energy solutions. Through impactful visuals and a data-driven approach, the new site has improved user engagement, generated leads, and strengthened Energy Vault's position as a global leader in energy storage.
